Projects
Along with supporting our veterans, not only Vietnam veterans,
but all veterans and all military personnel that are current on active duty or
in reserve status, we are involved in several activities within our community
and for all of those who are currently serving our country. Here is just some of
what we do. If you would like to help, please contact us and we will get in
touch with you so you can also become involved. Thanks - Verna Budahazy,
President of the Robert G Hunter Memorial Chapter #935 Associates of Vietnam

Activities and Parade
July
4th Parade
July 4th Downtown Douglasville Parade. You are welcome
to come and march with us in the Fourth of July Parade in Douglasville,
Georgia. Contact the chapter for additional information and the meeting
time.
Family Picnic
We have a picnic every year for our members, family and friends. This is
normally held right after the parade on the 4th of July at Hunter Park,
where we all gather at the Robert G. Hunter Memorial for a short period of
remembrance for all of those servicemen and women who sacrificed their
selves in defense of America.
Veterans Day Activities and Parade
Around Veterans Day, our chapter goes to schools in the area to present a
program about the American soldier in Vietnam. Contact the chapter for
information about this program. We also participate in the local Veterans
Day Parade and set up an information booth at Arbor Place Mall.
Toys for Tots
Each year we collect toys for needy children and families that are
distributed by the Marines for their annual Toys for Tots program. We
welcome your gifts throughout the year for this effort to bring some joy
to those children who are less fortunate. Toy contributions, or monetary
donations, may be made to the chapter at any time of the year. Any money
collected will be used to purchase toys for the Toys for Tots program or,
in some cases, an 'adopted family' in our area. Checks should be made
payable to the Robert G. Hunter Memorial Chapter, Post 935 VVA with 'Toys
for Tots' in the memo section.
Operation Exodus
Every holiday season around Christmas and New Years Day, thousands of
servicemen and women are traveling through America's airports on holiday
leave. We set aside a day to make their trip back to their base a little
easier by volunteering to work at the USO at Hartsfield-Jackson
International Airport on New Years Day and provide them with a nice meal
and a place to relax while waiting for their flight. You are welcome to
join us each year. Contact the chapter for additional information.
Coupons for
our Service Personnel and Families
We collect coupons and send them to members of our armed forces overseas
so they can use them when they make purchases at the post exchanges. You
know, those coupons for money off for groceries, sundries and lots of
other stuff they have available to them in the post exchanges. If you want
to help, just send us your left-over coupons from the newspapers.
Share
House
Every month we make contributions to the Share House here in Douglas
County. If you have items you believe they might need, please bring them
to our monthly meeting or drop them off at Jim Bruner's house. They always
need canned food items, boxed foods (non perishable), personal hygiene
items such as deodorant and toothpaste,, wash cloths and towels, linens
and lots of other stuff. And, of course, they will accept monetary
contributions also so they may purchase other items for the hundreds of
families they help each year. If you want to send a check, please make it
payable to "Share House."
Shelter Needs List so you will know what they need. You can either bring
items to our regular meetings, or deliver them to

Phone cards for our
wounded troops
Do you
have a few dollars left for something important? The number ONE request at
Walter Reed hospital is phone cards. The government doesn't pay long
distance phone charges and these wounded soldiers are rationing their
calls home. Many will be there throughout the holidays. Really support our
troops – Send phone cards of any amount to:
Medical Family Assistance Center
Walter Reed Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20307-5001
Note:
ANYONE can buy phone cards through the PX on line by going to this web
address:
https://thor.aafes.com/scs/default.aspx (They will even mail them to a
specific Soldier if you have their address, or to send generically to the
Family Assistance Center at Walter Reed just use "Medical Fam" as First
Name, "Assis Center" as last name, Walter Reed Medical Center as Address 1
and 6900 Georgia Ave as address 2, etc. - the whole process takes about 3
minutes.)
Also, Walmart has good prices on AT&T cards; Sam's Club is even better.
Please pass this on, copy and paste it into your e-mail. Clubs in District
22-A are making this a priority but help from around the US and the world
would be wonderful too. Thank you. Lion Sue
